The Hidden Springs Conservation Legacy

6/20/2007

When it was approved in 1996, Hidden Springs was the first planned community in Ada County. Community developers broke new ground in working with the County to establish formalized open space areas that included protection for wildlife, wetlands, trails, recreation, agriculture and historic resources. Early residents took an active role in carrying out the original vision of Hidden Springs as a conservation community, including advocating for the first open space manager position in the County. Now, a decade later, Ada County is following the Hidden Springs example by requiring that all planned communities hire and fund the position of "Community Conservation Director" filling a similar role to Hidden Springs' Open Space Manager. Breaking new ground is always a challenge, but Hidden Springs can be proud that we paved the way for community conservation in Ada County -- not a bad legacy for a small town!
