Hidden Springs home takes the LEED

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-certified house opens its doors April 12, 2007

Boise-based Fireside Homes is building what the company says will probably be the first LEED-certified gold-rated home in Idaho.

The house, a model home in Hidden Springs, incorporates extra insulation, efficient appliances and plumbing and electrical fixtures, along with local, recycled building materials to meet its green certification, according to Fireside Homes owner Joe Collins.

Fireside has built Energy Star homes before - the owners of Hidden Springs request that as a minimum energy efficiency guideline for its builders, he said - but this will be his first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-certified house, which adds factors other than energy and water conservation.
